![]() In competitive play where map control and movement dominate this can have a significant snowball effect(one missed rail can allow your opponent Onto an item that gives them significant advantage) At lower level play this might not seem like an issue(UHT, DM). Use LG long enough and you’ll start hearing the t-t-t-t-t stuttering even though your crosshair is on target. But it’s a poorly optimized game with bad net code. And apex is orders of magnitude more popular.įirst, quake champions is the game I main so I don’t want to come off like I hate it. As a long time Apex player, the audio, hit reg, servers, and game optimization are waaaay worse in that game compared to QC. I really don't buy the "it's jank" argument. It's basically like playing kovaaks against humans (assuming you're playing casually). I'm especially confused as to why more people in the aim enthusiast community don't take to quake. Do people not play quake and therefore it's unpopular? Or is quake unpopular and so people don't wanna play it? In reality it's probably some sort of feedback loop, but I'm just wondering how it got started considering how much fun quake is. I think the popularity aspect is a bit of a chicken and egg scenario. I rarely have a positive KDR in quake (only have about 50 hrs in the game so far) but it's easily the most fun I've ever had in an FPS game. Sure, you aren't gonna win a duel or anything, but I'm talking about having fun aiming on a game. Hit reg is weird, the ui is funky, the audio is abysmal.īasically it’s a hard sell I think to play a profoundly unpopular, extremely hard, and sort of jank game- even if you want to improve your aim.Īgain, I like quake a lot and play from time to time :)īut none of the item timing, strategy, and movement mechanics detract from the fact that Quake DM is insanely fun for practicing aiming. Quake champions I don’t think will ever have such mainstream appeal because of the absurdly high skill floor.įinally, I think it’s a little jank tbh. What their friends play, what their favorite streamers play, what other people watch etc. More importantly, folks want to play what is popular. Is about as important (and as hard) in quake as the aiming so it can feel like those are two big competitive hurdles to get over before you can “enjoy” playing (or play at a reasonable level.) Also cycling weapons, circle strafing, strafe jumping, etc. This is more of a problem than people give it credit for. Sometimes you out-aim your opponent but they have better stuff than you because you’re lost. So, my fellow gamers, grab your rainbow-colored energy drinks and strap on your oversized glasses, because Quake (Enhanced) is ready to make you squeal with delight.Experience for someone who likes the game but went onboard after ~400 hours of kovaaks just looking for a DM game to click heads (not that this matters in QC) and track: you’re just screwed without map knowledge. It's like seeing your favorite band live, but with better hair, edgier fashion, and more explosions! ![]() With its pixelated awesomeness and kickass soundtrack, Quake will take you on a trip down nostalgia lane while still keeping things fresh with its enhanced visuals.
